Genre Research: Action

For our final task in media studies, we will be creating an opening sequence to a movie. For me trying to figure out what genre i wanted to make the movie was definitely the most difficult part. After researching all other genres i decided to create an opening sequence to a romantic genre movie. I chose the romance genre because i believe with my resources and knowledge of romance movies, this will be the easiest for me to produce. When filming or directing a romance movie the 4 main lighting techniques used are “high-key lighting”, “lowkey lighting”, “natural lighting” and “keylight lighting”. These lighting techniques are used to create a bright and happy effect for the audience. Camera angles are used to show the audience the full emotion behind the scenes and surroundings. The most common camera angles found in a romantic movie are usually “long shot”, “two-shot”, “close-ups”, and “Medium Shot”. In all movies without the Mis-En-Scene, there wouldn’t be a movie. In most romance movies, costumes, makeup, and props such as dinner tables are used to pull the emotion of the movie together. Along with the Mis-En-Scene, all movies need edited sounds for the audience. The most common sounds heard in romance movies are, romantic music playing in the background, Dialogue, and sound effects. These details could be found in any romance movies such as, “The Notebook”, “Dirty Dancing”, “The Princess Bride”, and “Titanic”.
